The Weight of Water

In 1970s New Orleans, a stoic Black longshoreman who has spent thirty years loading ships begins secretly teaching himself to read at night. When his fourteen-year-old grandson is accused of a crime he didn't commit, the grandfather must confront the limits of his silence, his pride, and the forces that kept him from ever speaking up.
